Any islands left that arent trampled on by a mass wave of tourism?
Go to Koh Chang in the South of Thailand…NOT the Koh Chang in the North. You will not be disappointed.

I'm (26) going to Thailand for 3 weeks with my girlfriend in August 08. We are Starting in Patong for livley activities then Phi Phi islands for short stay, then Krabi, then up to Ko Tao, Phangan and Samui. Have to really do it this order to meet a friend in Samui. Please can anyone comment on…
i) Any good hotels (B&B) in Patong at ok price - That aren't too far from the action (shopping, bars etc). Not looking for anything plush as most of the time will be spent out doing stuff! - Just a clean room, good shower and good breakfast.
ii) How long would you recommend staying in Patong/Phuket given my schedule of the other islands - Think this will be the living part and spend time at other resorts relaxing. 3-4 days long enough to do it all bearing in mind I could do diving etc in the other resorts?
Any recommendations would be must appriciated - I have looked on Tripadvisor and getting mixed opinions - a personal experience would be great!
Thanks
This guesthouse is really nice and very clean. I think it's the nicest of the guesthouses in Patong. My friend stayed there for a month. The staff was very nice and they have a good breakfast and nice lobby bar. It's about a ten minute walk to the beach and there is a shopping mall nearby, and many smalll bars, restaurants and a 7-11 on that block. Also a few minutes walk to Bangla Road nightlife.Try to eat at one of the many little restaurants facing the beach and maybe catch a sunset–very nice there.

I think 3 or 4 days is plenty, Patong is a fairly small town. You could do a day of diving and spend a day shopping, and another lounging and maybe recovering from a hangover after checking out the plentiful nightlife ;p Try to eat at one of the many little restaurants facing the beach and maybe catch a sunset–very nice there.
I think 3 days 2 nights is good for Phi Phi. Renting a longtail boat to go to Phi Phi Ley for an afternoon of snorkeling is fun. The rest is pretty much sunbathing and hitting the bars. Make sure to hit the "back beach" Ao Dalam. Carpe Diem is a fun bar with nice fire twirling shows.
Sound like a good itinerary, enjoy your trip!!

My boyfriend & I are flying to Phuket on the 18th… wanted to go visit the island, maybe Phi Phi going to Koh Phangan over Christmas day NYE … Any help would be greatly appreciated, Im having a confusing time coming up with an ittinerary!
Not sure where to stay or how long to stay at each island… Looking for accommodation not too expensive around nothing over $50AU or less a night, somewhere with a pool, for Phi Phi Phuket & Koh Phangan… Any help is really appreciated!
You can go check out www.asiarooms.com for very good rates as they get their rates from big tour operators who have special discounted rates from hotels.
Just a note though, Koh Phi Phi is near Krabi, close to Phuket, while Koh Phan-ngan (I assume you mean the island famous for its full moon parties) is over at another province, which is quite a bit of a distance away so hope you plan some travelling time into your travel plan. Either that you mean the province Phang-Nga, which is famous for the James Bond island and national parks. Phang-Nga is next to Krabi so no problem there at all.
You would want to try Phuket island as your base as there is an international airport there, hotels are plentiful and you get beautiful sea/sand/sun here as well. The night life is very happening in Patong and you can get away from it all at smaller beaches like Karon, Kata, Bang Tao, Rawai, Nai Harn, Surin etc.
Lots of tour operators provide day trips to the islands like Phi Phi, Chicken Island, Coral island, James Bond island etc. And you can book a quick ferry to Phi Phi for your over night stays.
As said, www.asiarooms.com provides a quick description of the facilities, pictures, and more importantly, user reviews of guests who have been to that property and what they think because it is more honest than the hotel promoting itself.
Hope you have fun!

hi, this is my first time to visit thailand, and i will appreciate if you guys that been there before and got some experience advise me and give me some suggestions on my trip plan…..
i have direct flight to bangkok from dubai on 11th
on 13 i go (flight) to ko samui for ko phangan full moon party,
i stay 2 night for the party and island and on 15th i fly from ko samui to phuket, after 5 night stay in island and patang, i fly back to bangkok for 1 night stay then back to dubai!
in Bangkok, don’t miss:
-Grand Palace & nearby Wat Po where you can see giant gold reclining buddha
-Chinatown (Chinese food are great! excellent for shopping)
-and further more shopping in Siam Paragon, MBK, Gaysorn Plaza, Lumpini Park and local markets
- restaurants along the chaopraya river
Samui is one of the diver’s haven. The warm, tropical waters and beautiful coral reefs off the island make it perfect for scuba diving. Go on the full day speedboat trip to Koh Ang Thong Marine Park. I enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking and trekking to emerald lake (amazing!). Ang Thong was the place that inspired the film The Beach and is paradise on earth. For ur accommodation, I strongly recommend Muang Samui Spa Resort http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels%20Map%20Pages/Samui%20Map/Chaweng%20Hotel%20Location%20Map.html
The location was perfect with all shopping, bars and restaurants at your doorstep, and provided a tranquil and dreamy escape from the day-to-day world. It is also set on a more beautiful stretch of beach. The rooms themselves were large, stylish, clean and had all the special touches. The resort is well maintained, is filled with beautiful greenery, little bridges and a creek running thru it. We found that the staff were always friendly and attentitive. The breakfasts were also sensational.
Have a nice trip.

We are travelling to koh phi phi ,koh samui , and koh phangan were wondering how much we should exchange and/or expect to spend? were thinking $1000 australian each we have everything payed for except tours
we are travelling in jan 2009?
Hi,
1 AUD - 21.84 as of today. 2000 AUD will not be enough. It is only 43,000 BHT and it is really not that much if you want to stay on the islands and do some traveling. If you have accommodation paid, then it should be OK though. But it also depends on what food you will eat (Thai is cheap, foreign expensive) and if you are gonna party a lot. I would suggest bringing 1,500 AUD to be on the safe side.

I’m very puzzled right now. I’m arriving in Kuala Lumpur on the 17th of october and from there I want to take a flight to some nice paradise island for 2 weeks.
Now, there’s the WEATHER factor. What island is the driest in this season? I was going to go to Kho Phangan, but after reading weather forecast i have doubts :|. Every website says something different. Does the rain season mean it will be raining or overcast most of the day, or just for an hour or two?
So far my best picks are : Kho Phangan, Kho Phi Phi, Pherenthian Islands, Langkawi and Bali.
PS. I’m looking for snorkeling, beach bumming and party in the evening (i’m 25, traveling alone)
Help Please!!
why not try Philippines? it has white sand beaches, scenic views, friendly people and of course, the availability of most things- food, gadgets, tokens, clothing, etc.

Hi People
I failed in my quest to find anyone who had any 70s/80s pics of my favourite Thai hideaway.
Anyone got any pics of the island early 90s? Especially interested in Bottle Beach..
thanks in advance..
chris
I still wasn't old enough then to go to Koh Phangan by myself. So I can't help you at all. Try 2007.
